Air conditioning: types, benefits, and maintenance schedules

Air conditioning (AC) was once a luxury but it has now become a standard feature in many homes and businesses. A good air conditioning system not only keeps a space cool but also helps to control humidity and produce fresh air circulation.

If you’re looking to install a new AC unit or want to maintain an already installed system, it is important to know the different types and how they work.

Different types of aircon systems

There are eight primary types of AC systems to choose from. As a result, each type of air conditioner is created for a certain location and has specific functions and capabilities. The different types include:

  • Central air conditioner
  • Window air conditioner
  • Floor-mounted air conditioner
  • Smart air conditioner
  • Hybrid or dual fuel air conditioner
  • Portable air conditioner
  • Ductless mini split
  • Geothermal air conditioner

A central air conditioner is the most common type of aircon available. It is also the easiest to install and often the most cost-effective.

For small spaces, a portable air conditioner is usually the best choice. This type of aircon can also be useful for meeting rooms that aren’t always occupied.

For an energy-saving option, a hybrid aircon system is the best choice. However, this type of system can be more expensive compared to others.

How do aircon systems really work?

AC units remove the warm air from inside spaces and pump it outside, where it gets cooled and returned into the room. This way a room’s temperature is reduced. Aircons do this by following the heat transference principle: when a liquid becomes gas, it absorbs heat.

Because of the way aircon systems work, they often need to be cleaned. For this, the system must be opened, and the filter and evaporator coils must be removed and cleaned of any dust particles.

How often should you maintain your aircon?

In general, you should get your air conditioner serviced twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. This way, you can make sure it’s clean, that its parts are in good shape, and that it’s running at its best capacity.

If you require the installation of a new aircon unit or want to maintain or repair an existing system, do not hesitate to contact Ensol Technologies. Our expert team will install or service your aircon unit fast and effectively at affordable rates.
